The Mazzei family is one of the most famous and richest in history in the world of Italian wine. The Tenuta del Castello di Fonterutoli, located a few kilometers from Castellina in Chianti, represents the heart of the Mazzei possessions. With its total 650 hectares, of which just over a hundred are planted with vineyards, it is the estate where some of the most famous wines of Tuscany are born. In the mid-90s Mazzei bought a property of 70 hectares in Maremma, in the splendid and sweet hilly area that extends between Grosseto and Montiano. Thus was born the Tenuta di Belguardo , where white, red and rosé wines with a classic Mediterranean face are produced. The desire to experiment and confront other realities pushes the Mazzei family to look for other territories in which to continue the adventure in the world of wine. In 2003 an area with great potential was identified in Val di Noto , a few kilometers south from the capital of Sicilian Baroque. Tenuta Zisola is located near an ancient baglio and covers a total area of about fifty hectares. The vineyards are surrounded by olive groves, citrus and almond trees, in an intact environmental context and great biodiversity. The vines are cultivated as sapling, with a high planting density and low yields, in order to produce few clusters per plant, of high quality and with an intense aromatic richness. The Mediterranean climate, always breezy thanks to the sea breezes, proved to be perfect for growing grapes. The soils are poor, characterized by the superficial presence of sands and sandstones , which insist on a deep layer of pure and friable limestone. It is in this extraordinary context that great wines are born, produced with the native vines typical of the area and with the international varieties that have long been acclimatized in the Sicilian land.

The labels are all of a high standard, starting with the white Sicilia DOC Azisa , made with a blend of grillo (85%) and catarratto (15%), two grapes with great potential, which guarantee citrus, fruity aromas, a fresh and slightly aromatic. Zisola dedicates two labels to the main grape of the territory, Nero d'Avola: the Sicilia Noto Rosso DOC Zisola , with a pleasantly fragrant and fruity character and the Noto Rosso DOC Doppio Zeta , the more intense, complex and rich version of Nero d'Avola. , put on the market after aging for 16 months in French oak barriques. The other labels of the estate are made with international grape varieties. Terre Siciliane IGT Achilles is a pure syrah with a warm and Mediterranean face, aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, while Terre Siciliane IGT Effe Emme is an intense and elegant version of pure petit verdot. A red with great structure and depth, with a vigorous tannic texture and an extraordinary longevity.
