Montresor
It was 1892 when Giacomo Montresor gave life to the Giacomo Montresor Cellars with the intention of expressing a strong passion for identity and great recognition through representative products of Valpolicella . But the Montresor story recalls even before the figure of Count Claude de Montresor, advisor to the Duke of Orleans during the seventeenth century. Just around the middle of the century a part of the family decided to move to the Lake Garda area in order to continue with the family business consisting mainly of viticulture. Showing great passion for painting, Giacomo Montresor decided in 1904 to redesign the profile of a bottle that would make history, merging the shapes of the flask and the traditional bottle into a single shape. With the beginning of exports to the United States in 1906, the increased possibility of wine perishable due to extreme travel conditions expose the bottles to non-constant temperatures causing refermentations and oxidations. The bottles are in fact often transported in open wooden crates and temperature changes become a dangerous habit linked to travel. The appearance of the frosted bottle in 1921 solved the problem. With Bruno, the founder's son, a new season of flourishing exports to North America and a favorable, further settlement in Italy began in 1941. The story continues with Recioto, with products intended for blending and the arrival of the first autoclave in 1956 will lead, after some experiments, to the first sparkling wine 'Charmat Lungo Montresor method'. An enviable past, steeped in entrepreneurial spirit and ability in the wine sector, has ended up configuring Montresor as one of the most iconic wineries in the Valpolicella area with about 40 hectares of vineyards and cared for with respect. Montresor continues to show consistency with respect to the great tradition of Appassimento: this technique involves the storage of the grapes harvested in September and the relative dehydration in the months to come, allowing an increase in the sugar content and polyphenols before creating majestic wines such as Recioto and Amarone .
Montresor red wine
Among the great products of Cantine Montresor there is a wide range made up of red wines of the memorable Veronese tradition. Among the grapes used, Corvina , Molinara, Rondinella . Precisely in the case of Amarone, a careful selection of the grapes to be dried prepares the material for a meticulous and long vinification that ends with an aging in oak for at least 18 months. This is the precious content of the satin bottle introduced in the early years of the last century to protect the wine following serious deterioration in quality resulting from long journeys at sea. A complex and ample wine, Amarone is dialogue and expectation, and perhaps truly summarizes all the power of Valpolicella. The wines of the Capitel della Crosara line are also very interesting, born in memory of the popular devotion reserved for the image of the Madonna sculpted on a capital in a small local village. Amarone, Valpolicella Classico and Valpolicella Ripasso make up this range, restoring authenticity and a vivid link with the territory since the days when the Montresor family decided to directly involve the farmers of the area in the production thanks to the purchase of their grapes.
What are the characteristics of Amarone Montresor?
Amarone Montresor has slightly different characteristics in reference to the range to which it belongs, that is compared to that produced for the Satinata or Capitel line by Crosara. Both depend on a careful process of grape selection and storage on racks for at least three months. Maceration and soft pressing guarantee excellent material to be vinified. In the case of Amarone Capitel della Crosara the aging is about three years for a wine capable of releasing all the intensity of red fruits, floral hints of violets, with interesting spicy notes and references to tobacco and licorice. Amarone Satinato Montresor faces an aging of 18 months in oak barrels and expresses greater intensity of fruity notes such as raspberry and cherry, with a perceptible tendency to freshness and an excellent structure.
